April at the Alehouse

We have not one, but two Belgian-centric events for your imbibing pleasure at the Alehouse this month.

April 16th: Petrus Aged Red Release

Bavik’s Petrus Aged Pale has long been a favorite sour beer of ours here at the Alehouse. When they told us they’d be releasing a new sour beer called “Petrus Aged Red” we jumped at the chance to hold a release party. - Petrus Aged Red
- Petrus Aged Pale
- Poperings Hommel Bier

In addition to the libations, we’ll have a limited amount of glassware to give away with every one of the above beers. So come sample some obscure Belgian goodness and get some sweet swag while you’re at it.

April 30th: Queen’s Day Celebration

- Urthel Hop-It
- Urthel Samaranth

We will have loads of glassware and other swag to give you when you buy any of the above beers, and possibly a couple other surprises up our sleeves. Don’t miss out.

Coast to Coast Toast for Hurricane Sandy Relief

Five Beers from The Vanberg and Dewulf Portfolio and Five Kinds of Poutine for Hurricane Sandy Relief

Thursday, November 15, 2012 – King’s Day in Belgium – marks the official day (and night) of the Coast to Coast Toast. It’s a celebration of the Anniversary of the founding of Vanberg & DeWulf, the first company to specialize in importing Belgian beers to the United States.

We thought we’d also take the opportunity to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy by donating 15% of the day’s sales to relief aid. After all, there’s nothing quite like drinking tasty beer for a great cause. In addition to those five tasty beers, we’ll have five different kinds of poutine to pair, all made with our new, house made, hand cut fries.

Library Alehouse has long been a supporter of the Vanberg & DeWulf portfolio. So on Thursday, November 15th from open to close, we are throwing our own version of the Vanberg & DeWulf Coast to Coast Toast right here in Santa Monica. We hope you’ll want stop in to raise a glass to Vanberg & DeWulf, and to Hurricane Sandy relief, with at least one of the more than 43 beers from 11 breweries from 4 countries whose beers they import. Here’s what we’ll be pouring and pairing:

- Vintage Scaldis Noel paired with French Poutine
- Dupont Monk’s Stout paired with Mexican Poutine
- Castelain Biere de Garde paired with Asian Poutine
- Scaldis Peche Mel paired with Moroccan Poutine
- Dupont Avec Les Bons Voeux paired with Indian Poutine

Vanberg & DeWulf are the original, most ardent and proselytizing importers of Belgian beers in the USA. It’s no wonder they’re called the “Belgian Experts”: ever since 1982, their mission has been to support independent, family-run breweries and indigenous beer styles that express the spirit of a place. The founders, Don Feinberg & Wendy Littlefield, were the first Americans inducted into the Belgian Brewers’ Guild. They published the first edition of “The Great Beers of Belgium” by Michael Jackson. In the 1990’s they pioneered cooking with beer education at the CIA and The James Beard House. Don & Wendy conceived of and built Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, NY, thereby constructing the first farmstead brewery to be built in over a century… on a former hops farm, no less.

In addition to our event, other Belgian-tinged bars, restaurants and stores from New York to Little Rock, Chicago to San Francisco, and Miami to Anchorage will be
celebrating along with us.

Follow along on twitter with the #C2CT hashtag and make sure you follow @belgianexpert to keep up to date on Coast to Coast Toast happenings. We’ll see you at the Alehouse!

Bean to “Bar” with Stone Brewing and ChocoVivo

Stone’s collaborative efforts in brewing have reached the stuff of legend and their most recent release is no exception. This time, they worked with decorated homebrewer Ken Schmidt and Iron Fist Brewing to create a Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout.

On Halloween night, beginning at 6PM, we at the Library Alehouse are delighted to welcome both Stone and ChocoVivo for the draft release of Stone / Ken Schmidt / Iron Fist Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout, and a night of rare Stone beer paired with some delectable treats from ChocoVivo. In addition to the rarities on tap, ChocoVivo is making a Crystal Malt and Citrus-Infused Chocolate just for this event. We will be featuring the following two flights of beer and chocolate:
